Acapulco: had missed the King's Stand Stakes earlier in the week

Rain means no Air Force Blue Acapulco or Ballydoyle at Ascot

JET SETTING and Quiet Reflection will get their chance to grab Group 1 glory at Royal Ascot on Friday without the significant obstacles of Ballydoyle and Acapulco who have not been declared to run.

Jet Setting, winner of the Irish 1,000 Guineas last time out, runs for the first time for new owners the China Horse Club in the Coronation Stakes after selling for £1,300,000 on Monday.

Nemoralia will be in opposition to Jet Setting on Friday though, despite her trainer Jeremy Noseda being pessimistic about the filly's chances on the ground earlier this week.Already topping the market due to the soft ground at Ascot, Jet Setting's chances were boosted when second favourite Ballydoyle was pulled out of the race. She could be rerouted to the Prix de Diane at Chantilly on Sunday.

"I feel we've got to take our chance in the Coronation. Nemoralia is in such great order. Barring this weather, everything is perfect," Noseda wrote on Twitter.

The soft ground also means there will be no Acapulco at the royal meeting this year after she did not feature in the final declarations for the Commonwealth Cup. The Wesley Ward-trained filly was scratched from the King's Stand Stakes on Tuesday due to the underfoot conditions and connections elected not to try their luck on Friday.

Quiet Reflection, winner of the Sandy Lane Stakes last time, heads the 12 remaining runners, which include runaway Listed scorer Log Out Island but not Air Force Blue.

The Ballydoyle Bloggers Royal Ascot Day 1 Ballydoyle Runners Preview is now here http://aidanobrienfansite.com/the-ballydoyle-blogger.php .

AOBFS Royal Ascot Day 1 Selections:

The ground and going makes things tough for punters I'm Certainly punting lightly this

week as this sort of ground can throw up some strange results.

2:30 - Queen Anne - Tepin 11/2 E/W - Esoterique 7/1 E/W

No strong feelings about this race it looks wide open and to be honest has caused me a real headache. I tenderly go for the American Raider Tepin to be followed home by the French Raider Esoterique. Belardo is to be respected not sure why the Favorite is the favorite to be perfectly honest.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3:05 - Coventry - Caravaggio 9/4 WIN

Caravaggio is a star and should hate this going but handled it at the Curragh last time. It looks a very strong renewal I could mention several of these. Van Der Deckin should run a big race at a Price. Best of luck to Joseph's first runner Lundy who was sold for £400,000 last night

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3:40 - King's Stand - Mecca's Angel 7/4 WIN

On paper this looks a straight rematch between Mecca's Angel and Profitable they clashed in the Temple Stakes (G2) a few weeks back and the latter took the spoils. i think it will be down to these 2 again and i strongly fancy Mecca to turn the form around. I will probably do a reverse forecast too.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4:20 - St James's Palace - The Gurkha 6/4 WIN

Vibes are strong for The Gurkha one of the Ballydoyle Bankers of the week his form was boosted in the French Derby I actually think there is still more improvement in him. Awtaad will love conditions and is to be respected I cant see Galileo Gold liking Conditions. The Gurkha/Awtaad Straight & reverse forecast for me cant see any of the others getting near these 2 but think The Gurkha will come out on top handsomely.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5:00 - Ascot Stakes - Silver Concorde 13/2 E/W - No Heretic 14/1 E/W

Looks a minefield of a race betting wise don't have many strong feelings on this have gone for the DK Weld horse Silver Concorde. No Heretic has solid form has done well at a higher level than this. Willie Mullins has Ryan Moore booked to ride Pique Soux and he has to be respected.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5:35 - Windsor Castle - Mister Trader 6/1 E/W - Big City Dreamin 7/1 E/W

Think the Carravggio form line will prove to be a strong one here and the horse who followed him home at the Curragh was Mister Trader a very smart Juvenile Wes Wards American Raider Big City Dreamin is well thought of and even though the ground has gone against her she still will be a big player in this. Ambiguity has smart form in the book he was beaten by 7 lengths By Caravaggio and 6 lengths behind Psychedelic Funk in his only 2 starts that is rock solid form those 2 could fight out the Coventry Stakes Ambiguity could run a big race at a price.

Thanks for reading & good luck with your bets

Ward pulls Acapulco from King's Stand Stakes

ACAPULCO will not run in Tuesday's King's Stand Stakes but may contest Friday's Commonwealth Cup, trainer Wesley Ward has announced.

A brilliant winner of the Queen Mary Stakes at the meeting last year, Acapulco had been drifting in the betting for the 5f Group 1 King's Stand Stakes with the going at Ascot good to soft and showers forecast all week.

Having been beaten by Mecca's Angel on soft ground in the Nunthorpe Stakes last year, Acapulco will not tackle a rematch under similar conditions but could be rerouted to the Group 1 6f Commonwealth Cup by Ward.

Ward told the Racing Post: "We've decided to pull Acapulco out of the King's Stand Stakes. It was raining at Ascot this morning and it's not a surface she really likes so we're out."

Sole Power, two-time winner of the King's Stand, was also withdrawn due to the ground on Monday.

More rain at Ascot

Acapulco is among a strong team Ward has sent across for Royal Ascot, but the ground is causing the trainer concern.

"I've got a good group and I'm very excited," he earlier told At The Races. "The big concern is the ground and as I stand here at Ascot at the moment it's raining, so that's not good.

"It would definitely be detrimental to my horses; they're fast and like a firm footing. They are not used to ground with give in it so if the forecast calls for more rain like it is now then I might be in trouble."

Ground an issue for O'Brien stars

  • Last Updated: June 12 2016, 18:00 BST

Aidan O'Brien is one of a number of trainers left to ponder the effects of what looks set to be a soft-ground Royal Ascot.

Caravaggio (left): Coventry Stakes favourite

Caravaggio (left): Coventry Stakes favourite

Heavy rain hit the Berkshire track on Friday evening, leaving conditions on Sunday afternoon officially good to soft on the straight course, with soft places on the round track.

The Ballydoyle maestro will have a number of major chances throughout the five days, including French Guineas winner The Gurkha in what looks a red-hot St James's Palace Stakes on the opening afternoon.

The same day O'Brien is also set to saddle Coventry Stakes favourite Caravaggio.

Warning that Air Force Blue (Commonwealth Cup) and Ballydoyle (Coronation Stakes) could swerve their engagements on Friday, O'Brien said: "The ground is going to be the thing to work out - The Gurkha won his maiden on soft ground, but it was very nice ground in France (when he won).

"Caravaggio won on soft ground but shouldn't be a soft-ground horse at all.

"If I had a choice, I'd rather it went the other way (towards good ground) and obviously it will put Air Force Blue in trouble and Ballydoyle in trouble, too - neither would run on soft ground.

"There is rain forecast every day, but we'll see anyway and will decide once we get the first day going."

O'Brien added that Gold Cup favourite Order Of St George "handles a dig" but "wouldn't want it too soft" racing over two and a half miles.

Rains a pain for Ward raiders

  • Last Updated: June 12 2016, 16:47 BST

Wesley Ward will send his biggest-ever team to Royal Ascot this week with Queen Mary Stakes contender Lady Aurelia his biggest hope.

Trainer Wesley Ward and jockey Frankie Dettori

Trainer Wesley Ward and jockey Frankie Dettori

The American trainer could have as many as eight runners over the five days of the showpiece meeting.

Ward is no stranger to success at Ascot, having first struck in 2009 with juveniles Strike The Tiger and Jealous Again. In 2013 he pulled off the Norfolk Stakes-Prix Morny double with No Nay Never, while last season Queen Mary Stakes heroine Acapulco went on to be second to her elders in the Nunthorpe.

Having blasted her way home in the Queen Mary, the three-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy will this time run in the Commonwealth Cup, providing the ground does not get too soft.

Ward said: "The rain is probably going to hurt all my chances, which is a shame. But what can you do? You work as hard as you can to get these horses in the best shape, but there is nothing you can do about the weather.

"Acapulco has won two this year and she took her race well at Churchill Downs last month. She's been doing everything you'd want her to do since.

"We've booked Frankie (Dettori) for Big City Dreamin in the Windsor Castle, which I am really excited about. Frankie is still the man.

"Silvertoni is in the Coventry. She is a really nice filly who has been going great. She is by Tapit, the best sire in America and she's shooting good. We're seeing everything we want from her."

Owned in partnership by NFL wide receiver Wes Welker, Undrafted powered to victory in last season's Diamond Jubilee Stakes under Dettori, and is set to defend his sprint crown after scoring with ease on his return at Keeneland in April.

Ward said: "Wes is coming over this time - all the gang will be coming. He missed his win last year, which he wasn't too thrilled about.

"But Undrafted would want it fast and firm, so I don't know whether he will run. We'll see how the ground is and discuss it when we get there. If it is too soggy, he won't run."

The Florida trainer says his biggest hope is Lady Aurelia, who is favourite for Wednesday's Group Two Queen Mary Stakes.

She has had just the one start, scoring over four and a half furlongs on the dirt at Keeneland in April.

Ward said: "All of them are big hopes but she'd be the one. She's a daughter of Scat Daddy and she will be tough (to beat). She's been going really well and Frankie is booked.

"We're all really looking forward to coming over - we are always so well looked after when we go to England. You guys are great."

Aidan O'Brien has four to chose from in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot on Thursday.

The Ballydoyle handler can call upon Even Song, Earring, How High The Moon and Pretty Perfect.

Hugo Palmer's Oaks runner-up Architecture also remains in the mix among 20 fillies.

Beaten only by O'Brien's Minding at Epsom last week, Palmer will decide if she is over her Classic exertions before giving her the go-ahead.

The Newmarket handler also has We Are Ninety engaged, a Listed winner at Newbury

John Gosden has The Black Princess and Sovereign Parade engaged, Ralph Beckett could run Chicadoro, with Sir Michael Stoute's Shall We and Queen's Trust further possibles.

Ajman Princess, Daphne and Beauly are others to consider.

Order Of St George in Gold Cup mix

Fri 10th Jun 2016, 14:26
Order Of St George
Order Of St George
(Healy Racing Photos)
Order Of St George is among 21 confirmations for the Gold Cup In Honour Of The Queen's 90th Birthday at Royal Ascot next Thursday.

Aidan O'Brien's stayer has been ante-post favourite ever since he turned the Irish St Leger into a rout last September, winning by 11 lengths. He reappeared with a win in the Saval Beg recently.

Willie Mullins could pose the biggest threat in a showdown between Ireland's two dominant forces as he runs Melbourne Cup runner-up Max Dynamite, who was only third on his return at Sandown.

The winner that day was Sir Mark Prescott's Pallasator and he remains in the mix, along with Luca Cumani's Mizzou.

Michael Bell's Big Orange will have supporters, as will Clever Cookie after his Yorkshire Cup win.

Quest For More, Flying Officer, Curbyourenthusiasm and Scotland are other possibles to note.

Here is Ryan Moore talking about Coventry Stakes favourite Caravaggio Royal Ascot

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wesley's Royal Ascot Wizards

Wes talks about his Royal Ascot 2016 Team

Create A Dream for the Albany: “She has been there the whole time since she won at Ascot earlier this year. She’s right on target. From the onset, she was the best one I had, from the breaking process and the early workouts at Palm Meadows, she was the best. As soon as you start breezing on the grass, you can tell, she was breezing like she was a four-year-old. Mario Pino worked her, he was throwing her down and she was going in 22 and change, as slow as she could go, just gliding over the grass, we knew she was something special.”

Create A Dream SilksImage result for Create A Dream horse

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lady Aurelia for the Queen Mary: “It was a bit of a question because I did not break this filly. When I break them, they go on the dirt and the grass, they get a good feel of it, months and months of galloping on the grass. I got her late, it was foreign to her, she got outworked on the grass, I flipped her back to the dirt, she zipped out of there, boom, the light went on before her race at Keeneland. There was a little bit of a question mark about if she would take to the grass. I sent her to Arlington, wow, like scintillating works. I can’t see her losing. They are awesome good works on the grass. She breathes different air against her opposition she’s working with, she breaks three or four behind them, settles, eases out and widens. It’s not like she’s widening against horses who are just horses, she’s doing it against quality horses. You look at the watch and think, ‘that can’t be.’”

Lady Aurelia SilksImage result for Lady Aurelia horse

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Undrafted in the Diamond Jubilee: “He’s a really quirky dude as soon as you take him out of his tobacco barn where he lives at Keeneland. At the Breeders’ Cup he was an eighth of a mile from where he lives, he circled the stall, washed out. Last year, he settled right in at Manton and we got to Ascot early. That really helps him, he gets the nervous jitters out the first day and then settles right in. I hope it’s the same this year.”

Image result for undrafted horse

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Acapulco in the Commonwealth or King’s Stand: “I sat down with Michael Tabor that night at York, he asked if we should push forward to the Breeders’ Cup. I said, ‘I think we can do it, but any time you’re pushing forward to races, especially at two, you’re risking injury. What would you rather do, go to Royal Ascot and work backwards?’ He said, ‘absolutely that’s what we want to do.’ We ran her in an allowance race at Turfway this winter and believe it or not, she had to run to win, she ran a nine on the sheets, then I backed up. She won her prep at Churchill, she’s over there now and settled in. I’ve planned this since August. Everything’s perfect.”

Acapulco SilksImage result for Acapulco horse

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Silvertoni in the Windsor Castle: “She’s doing good, she’s won both her starts, she showed me she likes the grass, she’ll work twice at Manton. She should be in great shape.”

Silvertoni SilksImage result for Silvertoni horse

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Big City Dreamin in the Windsor Castle: “She loves the grass, she’s a big imposing filly, she won her only start, in the first two-year-old race at Keeneland, and I think she’s going to run a big race.”

Star Empire in the Coventry: “He won a really nice maiden race at Belmont, by six or seven lengths. He’s by Foxwedge, an Australian champion sprinter. The owner of Foxwedge sent me three Foxwedge weanlings to my farm in Ocala, just bring them up just how I would bring mine up. I think he’s going to be really, really tough.”
