Charlie Gordon-Watson signed the ticket on behalf of MV Magnier for the youngster, who was bred by Fastnet Stud out of the winning Idle Chatter. The Galileo mare is a half-sister to the Group 1-placed Vol De Nuit and the dam of two winners from as many to race.

"I bought this filly privately from the breeder, she was withdrawn from the foal sales because she had a nasty cut," said McDowall.

"I used to pinhook with Grove Stud. I was Grove Stud's breeze-up jockey for six or so seasons. I don't usually buy foals on my own but last year I had a broken arm so I couldn't really do our list, so I did as much as I could and then poked around and bought a few on my own. I bought three foals at Goffs and this one. I bought one back, one made a lot of money and the other I took a small loss on. Pinhooking; it's all sorts of rollercoasters."

4) Lot 165 - Colt - Scat Daddy x Missamerica Bertie

The final opportunity to acquire a son of Scat Daddy’s ultimate crop in a sales ring materialised in a relentless duel between Nicolas de Watrigant and Jamie McCalmont, who was standing alongside Coolmore’s Mathieu Legars, taking instructions over the phone. The former owners of the late stallion had the final say with a bid of €825,000 for a colt (lot 165) offered by Willie Browne’s Mocklershill. He is from the family of US Graded winners ALLAMERICAN BERTIE, HURRICANE BERTIE as well as BEACH PATROL who ran 2nd in the Gr.1 Turf Classic after the catalogue was printed. A delighted McCalmont commented: “This was the very last opportunity to buy a colt such a great sire, wasn’t it? Scat Daddy was an outstanding racehorse who turned into an outstanding sire and is even turning into a sire of sires - No Nay Never had another winner this afternoon and seems to be really taking of. It is very sad that he is no longer around. This horse didn’t look like he would go as fast as he did, which I think is a good thing. He’s been bought for the Coolmore partners.”

Purchased for €825,000 on behalf of Coolmore by Jamie McCalmont.

(5) Lot 106 The Factor x Sweet Belle - Grey Colt

Purchased by Jamie McCalmont on behalf of Coolmore for £220,000gns.

An ongoing theme of the past sales season in America was the buzz behind first-crop sire The Factor, which led to Lane's End Farm increasing his fee from $15,000 to $25,000 for the current season.

Today, that buzz reaches Newmarket as Tally-Ho Stud's colt, who did a particularly good breeze on Monday, sells for 350,000gns to Jamie McCalmont on behalf of a partnership between Coolmore and Stonestreet Stables. Plans call for the colt to return to America to be trained.

"He's very typical of The Factors I've seen," said McCalmont. "An attractive colt recently made a similar figure at Barretts [Two-year-olds in Training Sale in California]. He did an exceptional breeze despite racing on sticky ground that probably wouldn't be to his liking - he has a great stride."

The Factor was a brilliant sprinter in California for Bob Baffert, winning the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes and Grade 1 Pat O'Brien Stakes. As such, he was influential in the rise of War Front, not just because he was a first-crop standout but in that he was a true dirt performer.

Coolmore, of course, have invested heavily in War Front so it's no surprise to see them strike for a colt by his first major son to stud.

His first yearlings averaged $140,894 for 76 sold.

This particular colt was bought by Tally-Ho Stud for $100,000 at last year's Keeneland September Sal. He is the fourth foal out of Listed winner Sweet Belle, a Deputy Commander half-sister to minor stakes winner Sole Of The City.

Purchased by Coolmore for 350,000 GNS

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(4) Lot 47 Invincible Spirit - Loch Jipp (Bay Colt)

The colt is the third foal out of Hilary Needler Trophy winner Loch Jipp and a brother to the placed Hayba, who sold for 450,000gns to David Redvers at this sale two years ago.

The colt was sold by Mark Dwyer's Oaks Farm Stables on behalf of breeder Highbank Stud. He was listed as sold to Oaks Farm for 150,000gns at Book 1 of last year's Tattersalls October Sale.

Purchased on behalf of Coolmore for 360,000 GNS

"He's been bought for Coolmore but I'm not sure who will train him yet," said McCalmont. "He's such a big powerful horse but he walked around there very calmly, nothing fazed him. He's a lovely colt."

(3) Lot 94 (Bay Colt) Pioneerof the Nile x Faith in Me

Lot 94, a son of Pioneerof the Nile Out of Faith In Me, livened things up a bit as the Fasig-Tipton Florida Sale passed its midpoint, fetching a final bid of $1 million (£710,000) from agent Jamie McCalmont on behalf of Coolmore’s MV Magnier. The dark bay, from the family of Grade 1 winners Chaposa Springs and her half-brother You and I, was purchased for $230,000 (£163,000) at last year’s Keeneland September sale, about six weeks before this sire’s eventual Horse of the Year American Pharoah completed an unprecedented sequence of victories in the grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland.

(2) Lot 5 (Bay Colt) Uncle Mo x Five Star Dream

It did not take long for the Fasig-Tipton Florida Sale to reach a highpoint, as lot 5, the third horse through the ring, fetched a final bid of an even $1 million (£710,000) from a partnership of Stonestreet Stables and Coolmore’s MV Magnier. The son of Uncle Mo from the stakes-winning Five Star Dream, was consigned to the Florida Sale by Cary Frommer, who acquired the Feburary 19th foal for just $90,000 (£64,000) at this auction house’s Midlantic Yearling Sale at the Maryland State Fairgrounds last fall. Uncle Mo, whose previous high-water mark for a 2-year-old in training was $725,000 (£515,000) is of course, the sire of champion Nyquist, who fetched $400,000 (£284,000) in this makeshift sales ring last winter.

Of course, there is no one who knows this family better than Henry. He owned the granddam Jude, a 92,000gns purchase in this ring in 1997, from whom he bred Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Yesterday, champion Irish two-year-old Quarter Moon and the stakes-placed All My Loving, Betterbetterbetter, Hold Me Love Me and Magicalmysterytour.

Only this year, the family has flourished again. Quarter Moon is the dam of Diamondsandrubies and the highly promising How High The Moon while only on Friday it produced another stakes filly when Pin Up ran third in the Noel Murless Stakes at Royal Ascot.

"I think Richard must have been overcome with emotion," said MV Magnier. "Richard basically invented this family - it's been fantastic, a very lucky family. This filly is lovely filly, a great mover with a lot of quality."

Richard Henry "We sold Loveisallyouneed to Newsells in 2010 shortly before Jude passed away, but obviously it’s a family we have been very lucky with. There are 12 Group winners on the page, seven at Group 1 level and we were fortunate enough to race three of them.

"Yesterday is in foal to red-hot first season sire Zoffany and Quarter Moon has produced two high class fillies by Fastnet Rock in Group 1 winner Diamondsandrubies and classic prospect for next season How High The Moon. Hopefully this filly might be as good as them!"

Tattersalls Day 1 Round Up By Gina Harding

Tattersalls Day 2 Round Up By Gina Harding

Tattersalls Day 3 Round Up By Gina Harding

Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book One Coolmore review By Kingsbarns:

Day 1:

Coolmore, or MV Magnier, got off to a flying start at Tattersalls October yearling sale book one on Tuesday, purchasing 3 very nice sounding yearlings for a combined fee of 1,275,000 guineas. First up was Lot 66, a Montjeu colt out of Mujtahid mare, Splendid. This yearling is a half brother to Group 3 placed Lord High Admiral and his 3rd dam is Balidaress, the dam of Park Appeal and Desirable. Also, Balidaress is an ancestress of Cape Cross amongst many others. M V Magnier was quoted not long after the 575,000 guineas purchase, saying "He's a very nice, athletic horse," and "All the guys really liked him. Montjeu was obviously very good to us and we're trying to find the next Camelot or Pour Moi. Hopefully this lad will do the job." Lot 127 was the next yearling that Coolmore opened the wallet for, a Canford Cliffs colt out of Selkirk mare and Group 3 winner, Welsh Diva. This fella is a half brother to Listed placed, Fityaan and Group 2 winner, Trans Island. This is Canford Cliffs first crop of yearlings and 150,000 guineas may turn out to be a bargain for the Coolmore triumvarent. The 3rd and final purchase of day 1 for the lads was 154, a Galileo filly out of Aleagueoftheirown, for 550,000 guineas. This filly is a full sister to smart colt Kingston Jamaica, maiden Crocodile Rock and useful Cheveley Park filly for the John Gosden team, Criteria. She is also from the family of Group 1 winners Golden Opinion and Samitar.

Day 2:

Day 2 of Tattersalls was a very quiet one from the lads at Coolmore, making just the one purchase for 750,000 guineas. The colt is a Galileo colt and the final foal out of Flirtation, whose daughter Attraction, carried the Duke Of Roxburghe's colours to victory in the 1000 Guineas, the Irish equivalent, the Coronation, Sun Chariot and Matron Stakes in a stellar 3yo campaign. Attraction has had progeny in action this season in the shape of Group 3 Sapphire Stakes winner, Fountain Of Youth who beat Extortionist in this race with the latter heading off to run smart races in Group 2 and Group 1 company.

Day 3:

Day 3 and the final day of Tattersalls Book 1 has been the most productive of the 3 by far for Coolmore with 6 lots purchased. M V Magnier got the ball rolling early with Lot 326, a Montjeu colt out of Honorlina who ran twice, winning once over 1m in France and is a sister to Vahorimix, top class miler Volisix and a few others. M V Magnier was quoted not lot after the 625,000 guineas purchase saying "They're not making Montjeus any more," and "obviously he was a brilliant stallion who was very good to us with the likes of Camelot and Pour Moi. If he's half as good as those we'll be very happy." Magnier then followed up swiftly with the 2nd purchase of the day, lot 327, a Galileo colt out of Hveger for 750,000 and is a full brother to Vintage Stakes winner Highland Reel. The Granddam of this colt is Group 1 winner Circles Of Gold and is the dam of Group 1 winners Haradasun and Elvostoem so this yearling will be expected to hit big heights like his full brother and MV Magnier told the media about how Joseph O'Brien was saying what a machine Highland Reel is. The 3rd purchase of the day was quite a wait, but it did come at lot 343, a Galileo filly out of disqualified 1000 Guineas 'winner' Jacqueline Quest and is the first foal from that particular dam. 625,000 gns is probably a fair price considering the proven qualities of Galileo but there is of course a risk on the dam's side, but 625,000 is not a lot compared to Coolmore's recent purchases and wouldn't have bought if they didn't think she wouldn't turn out to be a success. There was another wait for Coolmore after the purchase for the Galileo filly, as they swooped at lot 391, a colt and first crop yearling by 2011 Epsom Derby hero, Pour Moi for 210,000. Dam, Marjalina was a useful filly for Kevin Prendergast back in her racing days, as she was a Group 3 winner over 1m. Magnier's business was far from finished too, as he was on hand swiftly after the purchase of lot 391, swooping for a Galileo colt out of Mauralakana, who was a Grade 1 winner of the Beverly D Stakes in USA over 1m2f and is a full brother to Ballydoyle 2yo, Hail The Hero. I was always suspicious that Coolmore were saving their pennies for a big splash at the back end of the sales, and so it proved when they won the bid for a Galileo colt out of Penang Pearl who is the sire of the mighty 10l King George winner Harbinger which makes a nice pedigree. This yearling at one point was sat at just 5,000 guineas but swiftly went up to 2,600,000 and Magnier made the following quotes about the sales topper and they were only very interesting and exciting ones. "He's a very good-moving, attractive horse, and he's a half-brother to an exceptional horse. He deserved to make that kind of price - it was certainly a surprise when he started at 5,000gns!" Thank you very much for reading my Coolmore review of Tattersalls Book One, I hope you enjoyed the read. It's much appreciated you all taking the time out to do so. The pictures of these yearlings can be found Below
