Kingsbarns offspring could race in UK with Drakenstein's New breeding plan.

28 January 2017

Kingsbarns is set to breed on both northern & southern hemisphere timeline to enhance his chances of success due to a subfertile issue.

2012 Racing Post trophy Winner Kingsbarns has been based at the stunning Drakenstein Stud in South Africa for the past 2 years and unfortunately has only managed to get 50% of the mares to visit him in foal but the results have been very impressive and Drakenstein are keen to give the 7 year old son of Galileo the best chance to succeed at Stud.

His first local crop of foals born in 2016 are so outstanding that Drakenstein feel its worth trying stating "The 14 foals born this year are so good looking why don't we breed him on northern hemisphere time and we can either send the foals to the UK or wait and race them here.'".

It's believed that Kingsbarns only fathered 4 registered foals during his covering duties at Castlehdye Stud in Ireland before the move to South Africa where he currently stands for 15,000 Rand.

Churchill receives the top honours for 2016 by Red

Churchill: Crowned top juvenile in 2016

The exciting Galileo colt won five of his six juvenile starts and heads the ratings on a rating of 122 following the publication of the European two-year-old Classification.

Churchill is the ninth European champion two-year-old to be trained by Aidan O'Brien in the past 18 years.

In winning both the National Stakes at the Curragh and the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, he follows in the footsteps of previous champions Air Force Blue (124), Dawn Approach (124), New Approach (126) and Teofilo (123), all of whom won both of these races en route to becoming the European leading juvenile.

Mark Bird, Irish Turf Club handicapper and delegate at the European two-year-old meeting, said: "Churchill's final rating of 122 sits just marginally below this century's par rating for a European Champion two-year-old of 123.

"However, the progressive nature of his form allied to his obvious physical scope and impressive pedigree give rise to hope that his early career may be just the launch pad to greater success as a three-year-old.

"As his namesake once stated, "the price of greatness is responsibility", so we hope and expect that Churchill will live up to his reputation in 2017".

Aidan would also have been responsible for the top three juvenile fillies were it not for the exploits of the outstanding American Lady Aurelia (121), who missed out only narrowly on being rated Europe's first female two-year-old champion since Ravinella shared top honours with Warning back in 1987.

She is rated the best two-year-old filly in more than a decade, having smashed both the opposition and the clock in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. That 121-rated performance is trumped only by Queen's Logic's 2001 success in the Cheveley Park (122) in the fillies' division in the last 24 years.

Graeme Smith, British Horseracing Authority (BHA) handicapper responsible for two-year-olds, said: "How Lady Aurelia will fare in 2017 is one of the more intriguing questions for the season ahead.

"Neither her success in the Prix Morny nor her subsequent defeat in the Cheveley Park came close to substantiating her Royal Ascot performance in ratings terms.

"However, the step up to six furlongs following the Queen Mary may well have been a contributing factor and I for one am keeping an open mind with regard to her three-year-old prospects".

Aidan is responsible for five of the top 10 horses on the list, with Lancaster Bomber (117), Brave Anna (116), Caravaggio (116) and Rhododendron (116) the others.

Despite Group One successes for The Last Lion (116), Wuheida (114), Rivet (115) and Thunder Snow (118), it has been a below-par year for British-trained two-year-olds, with 19 inclusions coming up some way short of the recent average of 25.

Thunder Snow is joint third with Criquette Head-Maarek's French youngster National Defense.

Coolmore equal South African Record to acquire War Command Relation

Coolmore Pay 6 Million Rand for the Trippi Yearling

A Trippi colt out of a Gr2 winning daughter of leading sire Dynasty equalled the record for a yearling sold at auction in South Africa when knocked down to Coolmore for R6 million in the first session of the Cape Premier Yearling Sale on Saturday evening.

It was just twelve months earlier that the Silvano colt, Silver Coin, sold for R6 million – smashing the previous record of R5.2 million set at the same sale, paid for rising 3yo star and next Saturday’s Gr1 Investec Cape Derby hope, Horizon.

The smashing colt, catalogued #32 and named Charles, was consigned by Drakenstein Stud and boasts a real stallion’s pedigree – with his relatives including champion, and Coolmore sire War Command, and former top sire Silver Hawk.

He is out of the stakes winner Demanding Lady, who scored five times for Lucky Houdalakis from 1200m to 2200m.

Another Purchase for Coolmore's MV MAGNIER. He went to 1.9 Million to secure the Captain Al x Eberaya filly from Klawervlei Stud

O'Brien Worlds Number 1 TrainerImage result for aidan o'brien
12/01/17
Many Have regarded Aidan O'Brien as the best trainer in the world for many years now but its now official courtesy of TRC Global Ranking.

Aidan stands on 1058 points & has a strong 32 point lead over American Trainer Chad Brown based on the January 8th update of the rankings. Another top class American Trainer Bob Baffert lies in 3rd place John Gosden leads the British trainers and is currently in 5th place.

Aidan is set for another impressive year boasting arguably the strongest team of older horses add that to A strong 3YO team recently boosted by the transfer of the majority of David Wachmans horses and undoubtedly a Stella cast of new juveniles this could be the greatest team to represent Ballydoyle Stables the jewel of Ireland in its 50+ year History.

Multiple G1 winner Highland Reel is among the finalists for the 2016 Eclipse Awards, which recognizes the leading performers in North America.

As the winner of one of the leading turf contests in the US The Breders Cup Turf, Highland Reel's inclusion in the list is no surprise.

Highland Reel came into 2016 already a multiple G1 winner after his victories in the Secretariat Stakes & Hong Kong Vase he went on to add a Breeders Cup and the King George last season which makes him a 4 time G1 winner and he will look to add to that in 2017.

Ward Says Acapulco Switch For The Best

Acapulco joins Ballydoyle team
©Healy Racing Photos
Wesley Ward feels Acapulco will enjoy "the best of both worlds" by being trained by Aidan O'Brien as well as mating with Galileo.

Winner of the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2015, her three-year-old season was interrupted by injury and she missed the chance to run in England last summer.

But as she already had a date with Galileo lined up, Ward suggested the switch to O'Brien would be best for all parties, with a tilt at the King's Stand at Royal Ascot the chief goal.

"I really thought she'd win at Royal Ascot again last year as everything had gone so smoothly with her," said the American handler.

"She won her prep race and then stepped up to win a stakes race really easy and I was so confident.

"Then, when we get her over there she had an abscess on her foot and we spent the rest of the year trying to build it back up.

"With everyone from Coolmore being at the Breeders' Cup we tried to get her ready for a race that weekend but it was a bit of a rush. She ran well but was just a few breezes short.

"She was perfectly sound afterwards, though, and that's what pleased us so much. I said afterwards there was still plenty she could achieve.

"Obviously, when you have a date with Galileo you don't want to miss it but we all talked and by having Aidan train her she gets the both of both worlds as there's no better trainer.

"It would be a lot to ask of her to go and see Galileo and then come back and race for me so it's best she stays in Ireland.

"Coolmore have been brilliant to me, they really have, and while I'm sad to lose her, it's for the best.

"I had a chat with Aidan about her at the Breeders' Cup and I'm looking forward to seeing what she can do."

Queen Mary Winner Acapulco Transfers to Ballydoyle
02.01.17
Image result for acapulco horse
The 4 year old daughter of Scat Daddy has transferred from Wes Ward into the care of Aidan O'Brien for a European Campaign in 2017 no details have been released on future plans or main targets for the season but she has already begun work on the Gallops at Ballydoyle.

Acapulco has won 3 of her 6 career starts including the Queen Mary G2 at Royal Ascot 2015 and a gutsy display when finishing 2nd to Meccas Angel in the Nunthorpe Stakes G1.

Acapulco had a low key 3 year old campaign winning a 6 furlong Allowance race at Turfway Park on February 20th she then impressively won in listed company at Churchill Downs over 5 furlongs last May. Her final run as a 3YO was a little disappointing finishing 6th at Santa Anita in the Ken Maddy Stakes G3 over 6 furlongs in early November.

She is a very exciting addition to Aidan's strong team of older horses for 2017 which includes Highland Reel Minding US Army Ranger Idaho to mention but a few.
